Ask the local realtor!)。 There is a strong and genuine bond between this group of friends, and a lot hidden in their backgrounds, even from one another。 And to find out that there may be an element of truth to Maine being a haven for retired intelligence operatives? Delightful! The plot moved along quickly, the layers of Maggie’s life unfolded throughout, and there was a bit of an unexpected twist at the end to keep things interesting。 A great read, the first in a new series by established author Tess Gerritsen。 Fans of her previous books, including the Rizzoli and Isles series, will not be disappointed with this latest entry。 Readers of the espionage genre, including the greats like John Le Carré and Charles McCarry and newer entries like Francine Matthews, should give The Spy Coast a try。 。。。more
Kylie Brown,
it took me way too long to finish this book。 i didn’t enjoy it much at all。 too much happening and it didn’t captivate me like other thrillers have
Thomas Ehrenberg,
a good readI greatly enjoyed it。 Well done。 My only suggestion would be some stiffer editing, to reduce the amount of attention to emotional angst。 The emotional experience of the character can be - and should be left to be - largely inferred, even experienced, by the reader from the situation, from the action。 The extent to which it becomes the focus detracts。 But only a bit - I really did enjoy it。

recovering spiesA different type of genre for the author and she out did herself。 It was refreshing to read something different and totally engrossing。 Here is hoping this is just the beginning for these Purity, Maine characters。

Good reading Interesting idea。 A little town with retired spies come together to combat a threat。 Cerebral reading at a good pace
Amy,
I enjoyed this a lot, then went to see if I could get others in the series…apparently not until Spring ‘25! Ah, well。
Roberta,
What a great new spy series! This one features 'retired' operatives living a well-earned quiet life in a small town where everything should be simple。 Retired is wishful thinking when a case from the past rears its ugly and vengeful head。 It is not gruesome but very intriguing as well as interesting! Jenifer,
An engaging spy novelThis is the first Tess Gerritsen title I’ve read。 It won’t be the last。 Character development was more than decent; I liked Maggie and her ‘Martini Club’ friends。 Gerritsen also created a strong sense of place for most locations。 Other reviewers provide plot summaries; I need not do so。 Recommended。
Jennifer R Coym,
Loved it!I am a big fan of Tess Gerritsen and this novel is a departure for her, different from her other novels。 It was great, a spy novel/thriller。 The characters are very likable and I enjoyed imagining what happens to retired CIA agents。
William M。 Stone III,

Hannelore Cheney,
Not generally fond of spy novels, I thoroughly enjoyed this one。 It was so enjoyable, I couldn't put it down。 The main character, Maggie, is very appealing, and so are her close friends。 The story itself is excellent and I can't wait for the 2nd in the series。 Not generally fond of spy novels, I thoroughly enjoyed this one。 It was so enjoyable, I couldn't put it down。 The main character, Maggie, is very appealing, and so are her close friends。 The story itself is excellent and I can't wait for the 2nd in the series。 。。。more

Old Spies are never truly retiredHave always loved Tess Gerritsen’s books。 Haven’t read one in a while and she hasn’t lost her touch。 I really liked the way the characters were developed。 Would have liked an epilogue where Maggie and Declan get together, but perhaps a book in the future with guest appearances of the Martini Club。
T,
Very well written and great plot turns。 I am looking forward to reading more of her books。

Tess Gerritsen catches the wave of the recent trend of fictional retirees banding together to either solve crimes (e。g。 Richard Osman's The Thursday Murder Club series), and/or to battle younger rivals & vengeance seekers (e。g。 Deanna Raybourn's Killers of a Certain Age, Gu Byeong-Mo's The Old Woman with the Knife, Thomas Perry's The Old Man)。Maggie Bird has retired to the coast of Maine to the community of Purity to become a chicken farmer。 She was drawn there by her fellow retirees from the CIA who had been settling there over several years。 Her comfortable life begins to unravel when a current agent appears asking for her help in tracking down a rogue agent who had been the cause of Maggie's disillusionment with the spy game。 Then the current agent is murdered with her body left on Maggie's property as if in a warning。 When Maggie and her neighbours are threatened as well, she is forced to pursue the reason for these attacks。 Her fellow CIA retirees band together to assist her。 The town sheriff can't quite comprehend how these old folks seem to know more about the crimes than she does。I quite enjoyed The Spy Coast and can well understand Gerritsen pursuing it as a series。 The 2nd book The Summer Guests (The Martini Club #2) is expected to be published in March 2025。 The Amazon Prime First Reads have been a bit hit-and-miss for me, but my choosing veteran writers (I also read Ian Rankin's non-Tartan Noir The Rise: A Short Story) from this month's selections proved the way to guaranteed winners。Trivia and LinksAmazon Prime First Reads advance reading copies (ARCs) are available to Amazon Prime subscribers。 They offer advance reads of books in Kindle eBook format one month before the date of official release。 The current month's selection is available here (Link goes to Amazon US, adjust for your own country or region)。 。。。more

Is it just me or do we all have that little desire in the back of our minds fantasizing the life of a spy? Well @tess。gerritsen first book in a new series brings that desire to life! The Spy Coast combines an intriguing tale of international espionage and the everyday life of a self proclaimed chicken farmer。 Or is she? Amazon first read。I was so excited to read this book but it was not at all what I thought it would be。 I thought it would be about a group of retired spies using their skills in local crimes。 Maybe with a touch of humor。 I didn't realize it would be so violent and depressing。 About international crimes, nations spying etc。 That is not really my type of book。 If a person wanted a real spy novel,I would recommend。 Amazon first read。I was so excited to read this book but it was not at all what I thought it would be。 I thought it would be about a group of retired spies using their skills in local crimes。 Maybe with a touch of humor。 I didn't realize it would be so violent and depressing。 About international crimes, nations spying etc。 That is not really my type of book。 If a person wanted a real spy novel,I would recommend。 。。。more
